India is a country of festivals where Hindu religion encompasses within itself many festivals, fasts and beliefs. The Hindu calendar year also has 12 months similar to English calendar year which starts from the month of Chaitra (April) and continues till the month of Phalgun (February/March). Every month has its own mythological and spiritual significance, and all the months have their own festivals and fasts. These festivals and fasts are an important part of Hindu culture and are celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion which helps in creating new energy and enthusiasm in life.
These fasts and festivals are an integral part of Hinduism, showcasing and preserving its rich traditions and cultural heritage. Through these fasts and festivals people worship their respective deities and receive blessings. It is mentioned in ancient Hindu texts and various mythological stories that fasting in Hinduism helps individuals to control their senses which is very important for spiritual assimilation with God. Nowadays, Indian fasts and festivals are being celebrated with great enjoyment not only in India but also in other countries.
